SB 1056 -- COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS SALES TAX SPONSOR: Griesheimer (Sutherland) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Ways and Means by a vote of 10 to 0. Currently, a community improvement district may, by resolution, impose a sales tax at a rate of 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 of 1% or 1%. This bill allows the sales tax to be imposed in increments of one-eighth of 1%, up to a maximum of 1%. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill does not create a new tax, does not require a vote, and provides flexibility in requesting an increase. Testifying for the bill was Representative Sutherland. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Karla Strobel, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
